Mark Patnode
New London, CT
Mark Patnode is an accomplished artist who works in a wide range of media. Known
primarily for his large-scale plein air paintings, two of Mark’s works were
selected for the 1991 Lyman Allyn Art Museum “The Artist Sees New London”
exhibit; one serving as lead-in for Positively Connecticut televised coverage.
Mark was one of 58 artists selected by Juror Cora Rosavear, Associate Curator,
Museum of Modern Art, to show at the 1995 Faber Birren National Color Award Show
at Stamford Art Association. A Fellow of the Urban Artists Initiative (UAI)
Hartford, CT, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the
Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT), in partnership with the
Institute for Community Research (ICR), Mark received coverage in the January
2003 edition of American Artist magazine for his large-scale paintings project
of urban New London, done through a UAI grant.
Mark has been awarded several grants and artist residencies in the United States
and Europe through state and private organizations. Mark is currently displaying
his work in Senator Joseph Lieberman’s Washington, D.C. office, 2006-07, by
invitation of CCT Art in Public Spaces Program.
A CCT Arts in Education HOT Schools Visual Arts Teaching Artist, Mark has had
the pleasure of numerous residencies at Magnet Schools and is a 2006
Co-Presenter for HOT Schools Summer Institute and best practices in Teaching
Artist residencies. Mark was a nominee for the Education category of the
Guilford Art Center’s Achievement Award – 2006 Year of the Child. Mark instructs
Painting on the Beach and art courses at Mitchell College and Thames Academy.
